Please note...

This blog is not meant to slam any of his previous owners. (We have found out for ourselves how tough it can be to get him to eat.) All of us have the horses we sold for one reason or another. We wish we knew what happened to them. We hope that they ended up in a field full of grass with kids to love on them. We would like that to be true for at least one old man. Feel free to comment!

And then there was... an old skinny horse

I'm starting this a few days late but better late then never.

While browsing Dreamhorse looking for a potential lesson horse for my mother's program, I stumbled across an ad for a Swedish Warmblood gelding. He was described as a dressage schoolmaster having competed up to Grand Prix back in the day and was now in need of a new home due to his owner's moving out of state.

And he was priced at $250.

A $250 Swedish Warmblood.

Oh yeah and he's 28 years old.

I immediately sent off for pictures and she replied with a very nice message about the placement of his arthritis (right hock) and how he would probably benefit from supplements but currently wasn't on any.

He looked sweet as could be and goodness he's a retired Grand Prix level dressage pro. If he was 12 years younger he would be worth $25,000 easy.

But we were out of state and needed to get back and sort ourselves out before we could think about going to see him. I finally convinced my mom that we should go out. She made it clear that she was skeptical to say the least and this was to placate me more than anything else.

My mom's friend tagged along, and we were off...
